Questions on 8'' HeatFab 18'' Slip Connector - 2824B

    • How does the slip connector work ? I would like to be able to slide the slip connector pipe so that I can separate the whole stove pipe from the stove for cleaning. This means I would want to slide it about once a year. Is that possible with the slip connector 2824B ?
    • A slip connector will slip into the pipe section below which makes it easy when installing the stove and pipe and eliminates the need to cut the stove pipe to length. You may be able to slip the pipe into the section below once a year but creosote buildup on the inside of the stove pipe section below may keep the slip connector from sliding into it as time goes on. Usually there is no need to disassemble the pipe for cleaning. Robert

    • I PURCHASED THIS SLIP PIPE TO FIT INTO A 4FT HEATFAB PIPE BUT I AM GETTING SMOKE BETWEEN THEM, IT DOES NOT FIT TIGHT, WHY. WHAT CAN BE DONE. THERE IS ONLY 7" OF THE 18" SHOWING, THE BALANCE IS IN THE 4' PIPE.
    • Jay, A slip pipe needs to have a bit of room to allow it to "slip" into the section below so there will be a small amount of space. However, you shouldn't get any smoke coming out the slip connector. The draw of a chimney will pull the smoke up and out so rarely if ever should any smoke come between the sections if the chimney is installed properly. Make sure the male section is going down so creosote stays inside the pipe. Commonly people install the black pipe upside down. In your case the slip connector should be at the top of the sections. If your chimney isn't drafting well it could cause smoke to come out the pipe seams. Go higher with your chimney if that's the case.
