Mosquito & Tick Control

Mosquito Control and Mosquito Control Equipment

There is a reason why mosquito control tools, like mosquito repellent and bug zappers, have such high demand. Nobody likes mosquitoes. They are annoying. They spread disease. Their bites itch like nothing else. So we know that when you want to spend some time outside, you want to do everything in your power to make sure that those diminutive pests don't interfere with your activities. So look around at our revolutionary lineup of tools to maintain a low mosquito count around your patio or campsite.

Mosquito control is more than just personal protection, though that does play a key role in the process. We have always believed that ideal protection comes in four levels: personal protection, impersonal protection, area protection, and eradication. So our tools are designed to fit each of these four levels.

Personal protection is ensured by our lineup of bug repellent. Everybody knows how spray-on bug repellent works--you put it on exposed skin and mosquitoes stay away. Our bug repellent is specially designed...

Mosquitoes are not only an annoyance, they are also carriers of many widespread diseases across the nation and the only way to protect yourself against these uncomfortable and sometimes fatal mosquito-borne diseases is to practice mosquito control and invest in mosquito control equipment.

There are many methods of mosquito control on the market. Some are more effective than others, some mosquito control methods are only temporary fixes and other methods of mosquito control offer long-term, permanent results.

Different methods of mosquito control will be effective in different areas and outdoor settings. Follow these tips to determine which mosquito control system is best suited for your efforts. Depending on the level of mosquito infestation and the layout of your property, different mosquito control methods will produce different results. Compare the following mosquito control equipment and make sure you choose the one that is right for you.

Eliminate mosquito breeding grounds

There are many mosquito control systems that are designed to effectively reduce mosquito populations around your home. Before deciding which mosquito control system is right for you, you should locate mosquito breeding areas around your property. Targeting and getting rid of mosquito breeding areas will allow you to attack the heart of your mosquito problem and ensure that your mosquito control efforts are producing the best results.

Mosquito dunks and mosquito bits provide an immediate attack on mosquito breeding areas by releasing a constant low dose of B.T.I. Continuous ingestion of the bacteria that is released from the Mosquito Dunks and Mosquito Bits attack mosquito larvae in breeding areas and kills them before they mature into biting insects.

A mosquito's life cycle consists of four stages starting as an egg, then a larva, followed by a pupa, and finally, an adult. All adult mosquitoes need water to breed and spend their larval and pupal stages in water. For this reason, it is important to prevent stagnate water from standing around your home as mosquitoes will use these water sources as breeding areas.

Mosquitoes do not need a lot of water to breed and produce their eggs. Old tires, empty flower pots, wading pools, and even gutters are prime mosquito breeding areas if you allow water to collect in them. Mosquito Dunks and Mosquito Bits are mosquito control products that are added directly to standing water sources and control mosquito populations by killing mosquito larvae before they mature into biting adult insects.

If you have ornamental ponds on your property you can also stock them with fish that eat mosquitoes to control mosquito populations and keep them from using your pond as a breeding source. Mosquito Fish for example can eat 100-500 mosquito larvae per day. If you use mosquito dunks or mosquito bits they will not harm the fish or plants in your pond.

Mosquito Traps

Mosquito traps are a proven, effective long-term method used to kill mosquitoes. When placed directly in or close to mosquito breeding areas, these mosquito control systems not only attract, trap, and kill mosquitoes, but they also interrupt the mosquito breeding cycle which prevents future generations of mosquitoes from invading your property.

Mosquito trap models like the SkeeterVac are cordless and can be placed directly in breeding areas throughout your property. Mega Catch Mosquito Traps utilize long power cords for operation and are also extremely effective methods of mosquito control

Mosquito traps will start to kill mosquitoes right away but keep in mind that it may take up to 4 weeks for the breeding cycle to be interrupted at which time you will start to see dramatic results in your efforts to get rid of mosquitoes. Mosquito traps are most effective when operated 24/7 to provide round-the-clock protection against mosquitoes.

Our most popular system is the SkeeterVac SV5100 Mosquito Trap and Accessory Bundle. The SkeeterVac SV5100 is powered by propane and provides 1 acre of coverage! This bundle includes 1 SkeeterVac SV5100 mosquito trap, 1 blue rhino fine-tune bait block octenol refill, and 2 blue rhino tactrap refills. This mosquito trap uses the octenol and CO2 to trick the mosquitoes into thinking they are being drawn to a mammal to feed off of. The propane heats and creates moisture which activates the bait block and also powers to fan to blow out the scent. In addition to the baitblock, the tactrap is designed to also attract mosquitoes. Mosquito research determined that dark colors tend to attract mosquitoes more than lighter colors, therefore the black and white stripes on tactraps are positioned so the black stripes are located where the fan is to suck the mosquitoes in the trap.

Mosquito Barrier

Mosquito Barrier is an all natural concentrate that works quickly to kill mosquitoes on contact. This garlic based concentrate will also repel mosquitoes and suffocate any mosquito larvae in areas with standing water.

If there is NO STANDING WATER in the area use this formula:

Mix 4 ounces of Mosquito Barrier into one gallon of water. Stir well and spray about an hour before sundown.

  • 1 Gallon water

  • 4 Ounces Mosquito Barrier

If there is STANDING WATER in the area - add a vegetable oil to the mixture using this formula:

For each one gallon of water, add 4 ounces of Mosquito Barrier plus 2 ounces of either Soybean Oil or Canola Oil (found in your local grocery store's cooking oil section) and 1 teaspoon of Ivory liquid soap or any other non-scented liquid soap (not detergents). Stir well and spray about an hour before sundown.

NOTE: The oil is used to put a coating of oil on the standing water to suffocate mosquito larvae. Soap helps the garlic oil mix well with water.

  • 1 gallon water

  • 1 Teaspoon liquid soap

  • 4 Ounces Mosquito Barrier

  • 2 Ounces soybean or canola oil

Note: The oil will help the mixture stick to grass, leaves, plants etc. as well as coat any standing water with a thin film suffocating mosquito larva.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR AVERAGE RESIDENTIAL PLOTS:

If you are spraying 1/2 acre or less you can use a canister type sprayer. Canister type sprayers are available at almost any hardware, lawn and garden, and home improvement store. Most hold from 2 to 3 gallons of liquid and generally cost about $16-$20 each. Canister sprayers must be pumped up with air pressure and they have a wand for spraying. The formula for a 2 gallon canister sprayer is: 8 ounces Mosquito Barrier, then fill canister with water. Mix well and spray.

Garden hose-end sprayers are not recommended because they are generally very inaccurate and the droplet size is larger than desired. However, if you insist on using a Garden hose-end sprayer - there are two types, one type has a dial for ounces per gallon and the other does not have a dial. For both types, mix 12 ounces of Mosquito Barrier with 20 ounces of water and use this mixture to completely fill the container. On the dial type, set the dial on 2 ounces per gallon, or 4 tablespoons per gallon. Normally it takes about 7 minutes to empty the container with the garden hose on full blast, so you need to be quick, or fill it again until you have covered everything we recommend.

One gallon of Mosquito Barrier is generally enough for the whole Summer mosquito season. Sprayed every 3 weeks, for the average half acre residential lot, one gallon is enough for 10 applications, if necessary.

Mosquito Barrier is a patented product.
