Great product, great service

My fireplace had no damper, so instead of paying over $250 for someone to come install one, I did some on-line research and found this one at this site. After a couple of quick measurements, I ordered hoping this would fit. The damper was delivered promptly and fit in my fireplace perfectly with next to no effort. I highly recommend.

I am pleased with the Vestal Damper. We have a very old home which did not have a damper, and I was loosing heat up the chimney. I was looking for a smaller damper because the fire box opening was less than the length of the 24 Vestal damper. I was able to see from your pictures of the damper that their was about a 2 inch flange around the outer edge so I decided it would work if I cut some of the flange away. I was able to cut off about an inch from both ends and then it fit. The damper reduced the heat loss significantly but the movable door of the damper was not perfectly flat and left a slight gap while resting on the frame. To seal the gap I added some fiberglass rope sealant used to seal wood stove doors, and the gap was eliminated. Now I have a great seal on the damper. It is very easy to open and close with the use of a fire place poker so that you don't have to touch the hot and sooty handle. Good buy for about $100.

    • My damper plate (door) measures 23 1/4" x 6". Do you carry that or something close?
