The Eagle & Shield Fireback is an early patriotic design with a shaped, arched and molded crest above a spread-wing eagle clutching arrows and olive branches in its talons and centering a stars-and-stripes shield on the breast, with a molded base below. It was cast between the years 1782-1810 in an unknown foundry. It lends an authentic feel to any hearth and so much more for your home. Positioned against the back wall of your fireplace, a fireback protects the masonry from deterioration; and by reflecting light and heat from the
fire, it radiates heat from the fire forward into the room.
A fire back lends visual warmth and interest to a hearth whether it's with a
roaring fire, or soft candlelight. Our original cast iron fireback designs were
created by artist J. Del Conner. A mark of quality and authenticity is engraved
on the back of each casting. Measures 17" Wide x 24-3/4" High. 56 lbs.
