It saves the hassle of preparing kindling, but it's not a miracle worker. Large green logs take a lot of time to start. However, if you want to have wood fire with the convenience of gas, use large logs and close the mixing chamber for a cool, yellow flame. A large green log looks real as you expect, and it takes a long time to burn. It also does not support a flame and therefore extinguishes itself when you turn the gas off. It is easy to install in spite of needing some threaded pipe and some elbows.

This is my second one. Great product. my first one lasted 7 years before getting stuffed up and giving out.
