This is a Heavy-Duty American Crafted Cast Iron Grate. 18" J Series is a wood/coal grate. Shallow 12" depth makes it ideal for use in Franklin stoves and in factory built metal fireplaces. New one piece construction (no assembly needed). Dimensions: 18" Front x 13" Back x 12" Depth. Leg height 2-1/8". Weighs 17 pounds. Made in USA

This is a fine grate for a stove burning coal, but for a wood burning stove the slats are too small for ash to fall through.

Not a good choice for my needs.

I am very inpressed with the quality and weight of the grate in the past we've purchased grates and they have only lasted about a year and the bottom burned out. I don't believe that will happen with this one. I would like to know where it was manufactured.

I have only used it for a little while but it seems to be what I was looking for as far as durability goes. It does make it a little harder to turn the logs though. But that is a low price to pay for the strentgh of the product.

Its perfect for our fireplace, fits right for the size space, is robust & burns well. Holes are not too wide so holds debris.

When I got my grate, it measured exactly the same as what I ordered. It fits my stove perfectly and I like building a fire now. It's heavy duty and I would highly recommend this product to anyone.

Questions on 18'' Cast Iron Fireplace Grate

    • We have what I would consider a small fireplace with the depth at 17 inches and the front measuring 37-38 inches wide. Would this 18 inch cast iron fireplace grate be the correct size for our fireplace?

    • This fireplace grate should fit fine in your fireplace although it might be a bit small. I would think the 27" grate would be a better fit actually which measures 27" Front Width x 22" Back Width x 12" Deep. The depth is not a problem and neither is the front width. The thing to measure is the back width. Measure back from the front of the fireplace 12" and you will need at least 24" width at that point. If the 27" grate is too wide at that depth then measure for the 23" size grate.
