Firebacks have a long history in Europe, longer than chimney caps. If you looked into a fireplace in Ireland you would find a fireback. They still use their fireplaces for heat and cooking. The "Heat Reflector/Shield" just uses modern materials like 304-alloy stainless steel, to give longevity, light weight, and an attractive appearance. In an unprotected masonry fireback, heat is absorbed into the masonry brick which causes the bricks to crack and the mortar to breakdown, leading to expensive repairs.
Fireplaces with "Heat Reflector/Shield" protecting them will be exposed to 1/3 less heat. Additional heat is radiated into the room where it should be, and damage to the fireplace is significantly reduced or stopped. Made from heavy-duty 14 gauge 304 stainless steel for long life. Stainless steel legs come with each Heat Reflector/Shield. Using the slots in the legs you can create three different angles for maximum benefit.
These Heat Reflector/Shield firebacks are easy to install and great for protecting masonry firebacks from heat damage. Theyare also great for restoring the insulation in pre-fab zero-clearance ceramic fireboxes when they are cracked and getting additional heat out of any open fireplace (20% to 30% or more depending on the fireplace). Fireplaces with gas logs really benefit from the installation of a "Heat Reflector/Shield" fireback. Measures 18" Wide x 16" High. This attractive stainless steel fireback features a wheat etching.
Note: RMR pre-stresses each fireback before they are shipped. When stainless steel is heated it expands. Without pre-stressing them, they would warp and make strange noises when you are burning a fire.

Very nice etched design - however, soot covers it most of the time. Sides could have been more curved to allow for greater heat radiance.
Fits my fireplace, does the job, and doesn't cost a fortune.
