The adjustable Fireplace Screen Rod & Valance kit is used for installing replacement screens for any fireplace up to 48" Wide. The rods and valance extend from 31" wide to 48" wide with a profile of 2". They install with masonry fasteners (included). Unlike regular hearth screens these don't stick out in front of the fireplace. Simply measure the height of your fireplace opening from the lintel (metal angle iron at the top of the opening) to the fireplace floor. Take one inch from the height measurement of your fireplace to order the correct size screen (sold separately). Example; If your fireplace opening height is 27", order a 26" screen.
Good product, installs easily. Screen moves fairly well along the rails, but sticks sometimes and has to be pulled harder, but not a big deal. Would appreciate it if they added more holes for mounting - 1 per end is ok but would be even more stable with two per end. I do not have anything behind the steel lintel to attach to, so to keep the center portion from sliding sideways telescoping, I drilled a single hole up through the center and one side section the top, behind the lintel and put in a single small nut and bolt. Works perfectly.
Nice, clean look once installed - perfect for when you need a screen but don't want to notice it. Relatively easy to install. The guide rod adjustment doesn't really do anything, but so far, it hasn't impacted our ability to use it. All in all, the kit is exactly what we needed.
