What I was looking for

Indicator is easy to see in dim light. Makes sense to me to have an open groove (for indicator movement) which minimizes heat buildup underneath for stove-top applications (as opposed to solid face with 'clock style' indicator).

Nice product. Works great apart from the kid has now worked out how to pull it off the stove top.

Works great. You really can't regulate combustion air properly without a thermometer whether it is stack mounted or on the stove top.
