- Do these hearths have an insulating material under the tiles or are they all cement board and tile? I need to replace an Insul-Brick corner hearth that was damaged by a flood. I thought a hearth had to have an air space or some insulation between it and the wood floor.
Bob - The Asian Slate 48" X 48" stove board is offered as a Type 2 (ember protection and thermal protection) R Value of 1.08 which is required by many wood burning stoves. These are built with a 1.5" heavy duty extruded aluminum frame, automotive type e-coat-paint process for frame, 1/2" non-combustible (per E136) substrate, and an additional 1/2" of Micore 300 under the complete hearth pad which provides the ultimate thermal protection as well as 100% support for the entire stove board. Additional benefits- no removal of carpeting required. Can be installed on risers for installations that require additional thermal protection.
