Only plastic spin whip
The product does work well with soft creosote.I wish Gardus had a chain flail attachment. I made one myself because I like cleaning from the bottom up.

Great Product
Can now clean chimney from the ground. Works great. Purchased cleaning system for less than the cost of one professional chimney cleaning.

Does a good job cleaning a flue, especially moving through a 45 degree elbow...did not try a 90. The rods are difficult to disconnect without using the hex key wrench. Need two people for the operation.

I found the item be quite effective on the chimney and flu pipe it was easy to use and looks like it should hold up for awhile.

I just love the rotary chimney cleaning system. I just purchased it this year and cleaned my chimney for the first time and found this system to be well built and easy to use. I plan to use it for years to come.

I tried it out on my almost new chimney liner so I didn't have much creosote. It was very easy to use right from inside the fireplace insert It seems well-designed and looks like it should last a long time.

Great product. Clear flute real well. Cleaned flute from bottom up with a cordless drill. Since I have a really long flute, I ordered two systems for the extra rods. I am glad I did as three extra rods were needed.

The product worked as described and I was able to easily clean my chimney with it using my battery powered drill. Overall, I felt that it did a good job. I did not find it necessary to trim the line and I also did not use the fireplace cover. My flue is 30 feet tall and I simply ran the cleaner in from the bottom and then from the top.

Just used it on my fabricated chimney, and works great. Better than getting on a roof with 6 of snow on it. Four stars and I'm not impressed easily.

Questions on SootEater Rotary Chimney Cleaning System

- It would be nice if the instructions for use were included. My concern would be that if one cleans from the bottom (on a wood stove w/ 8" round flue how one keeps all the dust/soot/crap, etc. from 1) coming back down and filling the room. It would seem that the stove cannot be completely wrapped since you have to keep the door(s) open to access the flue. My other concern would be that stuff coming out the top would get all over the roof causing discoloration.
Related question: How much rod length is required to go up (or down) a flue from a first floor stove through the second floor and a 4:12 roof pitch plus about 4' above the roof line? - Agreed; instructions on our website would be a good addition; we'll see about adding them. Cleaning a chimney from the bottom is always a dirty job. Most professionals use a high powered vacuum cleaner designed for this purpose to keep the dust down. For homeowners wanting to clean their own chimney; 1) Cleaning from the roof is the recommended method whenever practical. For steep pitch roofs or high chimneys; cleaning from the bottom is the only safe choice. One thing you can try is this; 1) Get the brush started up the chimney. 2) Tape a garbage bag over the opening of your wood stove and poke a hole large enough to get your brush rod through. 3) Connect your drill motor to the rod outside the bag. 4) Now work the rod up the chimney. As far as rod length for your application; a tape measure is the best way to calculate how many rods you will need. It really depends on how much chimney is sticking out the roof.

- isit possible to go up to 40 feet long, does the rods are stiff enough???
thanks - Helene, Our guidelines for the SootEater are cleaning up to two stories (which can vary from 29 - 35 ft on average). You would likely have no problem with a run of 40' but we really can't say as there are many variables ie: how many turns, size and shape of flue.
