Overview

The Mountaineer Wood Stove will pay for itself in no time by cutting energy costs! A perfect combination of form and function, the Mountaineer will burn for hours on a single load of wood. It heats up to 2,000 square feet, and comes with an adjustable high speed 100 CFM blower. Enjoy a magnificent view and warmth of the burning fire through the ceramic glass door.

Details

If you want the hottest burning, straight heat stove, the Mountaineer Wood Burning Stove is the perfect stove for you. It features a durable 3/16" reinforced plate steel build lined with firebrick, and a heavy cast iron door with air washed ceramic glass for brilliant viewing of the fire.

 height=

The air wash system consistently draws air from the top of the stove down past the 17" x 9" ceramic glass window. This effectively prevents the tar and soot that would normally build up, restricting your view and making maintenance a chore.

 height=

The inside of the Mountaineer is lined with firebricks for even greater burning efficiency. The purpose of the firebrick is multifaceted:

  • It helps to insulate the stove so that there is less unintended heat loss from the unit, allowing the heat to be distributed as desired.
  • Firebricks hold up well to extreme temperature changes and possess low thermal conductivity making them an excellent choice for aiding in the efficiency and longevity of your stove.
  • Gives the stove an aesthetically pleasing appearance while not in operation.

In short, a firebrick-lined firebox is key for burning efficiency.

The Mountaineer holds an abundance of wood and will accept logs up to 22" long, with it's 23" wide x 14" deep firebox, thereby allowing it to burn for hours on a single load of wood heating up to 2,000 square feet with a 104,000 BTU rating.

This pedestal model wood stove is coated with a satin black finish and trimmed with pewter accents to enhance any hearth setting.

The Mountaineer Wood Stove includes an adjustable high speed (100 CFM) blower to direct warm air into the room for added comfort and warmth. The stove is loaded from the front through a cam-lock door latch that tightly secures the gasketed feed door. The firebox is lined with firebrick and spacious enough to accommodate logs up to 22" in length. The Mountaineer features a large ash pan that is tucked underneath the stove and slides out with ease for quick and easy ash removal.

Although the Mountaineer Wood Stove is built for heavy-duty use, it is very flexible and serves many other functional purposes. A simple pot of water or steamer set on the top of the wood stove will humidify your home and just a splash of stove scents added to that water will fill your cabin with delightful aroma. Some assembly required.

Not only will the Mountaineer completely satisfy your heating needs, it can also act as a humidifier when accompanied by a water steamer! Simply place on top and refill occasionally. With just a little bit of Stove Scent, your water steamer can become a fragrance diffuser! Stove Scent fragrance sold separately.

Not what we expected , to small and smokey!!!

My husband is not happy at all with this stove . the damper was to small in the pipe (which should have been in the front of stove) so we had to buy a larger(damper) one ,so not to burn the house down. there was no way to control the fire from drawing . it smokes really bad out the front vents. does not hold very much wood to burn all night, out by morning . does not look as big as in the picture, the blower isn't much either , runs all the time. the price is to high . WISH WE HAD NEVER BOUGHT IT!! it cost to much to return. wish we had of because we will have to find another stove that is vented right (damper in front of stove) so we will no our house won't burn down while in bed or while we're gone. all i can say about the stove is it looks cute.

Robert's Comment; We are the only company that I know of that allows you to buy a wood stove, burn it for several weeks and return it if not satisfied. We even cover the shipping costs on the Vogelzang stoves if you purchase a different wood stove from us (any brand) which can't be beat. I suspect there's a problem with your chimney draft if the stove smokes out the vents. Try giving our customer service a call for possible solutions.

Good heater poor exhaust smoke comes into house.

Heater works great but even with six foot stove pipe above roof line every time you open door to put in more wood smoke comes rushing into the house. I think this maybe caused by the air wash system that makes the stove to burn the wood completely to ashes.

vogelzang mountaineer

Love the stove. Heats up my 1400 sq ft house perfectly. Two days after I had it hooked up, the power went down. It was -12 degrees that morning. Got the stove going and the house felt great. 4 stars for overall as the fan kinda sucks. But glad they gave one as opposed to no fan at all. I would like to install a larger fan in the future though.
The stove is great quality. I dont feel like they cheated corners at all in construction.
Thanks a ton to northline express. Im new to stoves but 14 years experience in construction. They answered all my questions well.
I burn pine as it is plentiful in my area. I have no problems the one negative review gives as far as sparks or smoke. I had an existing fireplace, 6x10 oval clay pipe. Seems to work very well so far.
Shipping to small town in Idaho took 1 week. Seemed speedy to me considering Im not off a major interstate or anything.

Great Stove!

Bought this stove in 2009. Took a few hours to install including stove pipe as we've never had a woodburning stove in our home before. It works great..keeps two old folks nice and toasty. The only complaint I have is the noise of the blower fan. None the less it is a wonderful addition to keep us warm and the electric bills down. Even better for us because of the 13 acres of woods we live in, in wonderful Kentucky.

poor excuse for a wood stove

This stove is for a doll house. It is too small. It will take long logs but they can have no size to them. If you would like to burn pool cue diameter wood it is perfect. The height of the fire box is too limiting to manage your fire & unless you are burning very small wood you will be managing your fire a great deal. It also drafts poorly. What little heat you get you will lose trying to get the smoke out of your house. I lost my previous stove in a divorce... that stove did not fill my house with smoke and was rated at less btus but did a better job of heating. Same stove pipe... same chimney.... worked great. Not my set up it is this little miniature joke of a stove. Can't put a grate under your wood for fire ventilation therefore poor burn... Save your money and spend a couple of hundred more & buy a real stove. If you would like to open your windows a lot in winter & mess with your wood stove for hours a day... buy this one.

Excellent - Want to get a 2nd one!

This was my first wood stove ever. Was very skeptical and did my homework before buying. Bought it for a house we have in the higher elevation in the NC mountains where it gets quite cold. After professional installation and a some tips from them and a couple of tries my wife and I got it to work great. Perfect for emergency heating and just all round warm. it got my home into the 80's while outside was in the 20's in almost no time and as long as I kept the fire supplied with wood we stayed nice and warm. Really love the stove. Used it many times and burns very efficiently. Looking to buy a 2nd one as back up heat source to help my daughter keep her utility bills down. I highly recommend this and highly recommend a professional install. Can not put a price on safety.

Great stove

Love my new stove. I had replaced a small and undersized Jotul with this Mountaineer, and what a difference: the glass stays clean, the stove stays hot, you can load it with long logs, the blower is a great bonus, and it's really easy to reach every corner of the firebox to clean it out.

hate this stove

We installed this stove in March of last year and have hated it ever since . Paid good amount of money ,but I wouldn't give a dime for it now. One of the reasons we hate it is the vents in the front of the stove let smoke and sparks come out . A safety hazard if you ask me. If you have a small fire in and let it die down then later you have a whole house filled with smoke. You can't leave a big fire in it over night or the sparks fly out of the vents in front and could catch something on fire. Maybe there should have been a sliding vent on the front so you could close it when needed.

Moderator Comment: It sounds like you have a poor draft when the fire starts to die down and the chimney cools which isn't a fault of the stove but rather a problem with your chimney. Try holding a candle or blown out match near the air intakes when the fire is out to see if the air is blowing out the air intakes. If this is the case than you have a downdraft when the chimney cools. A few solutions can be found at Why Does My Fireplace Smoke.

As for sparks coming out the air vents; This is a common occurrence on many stoves. One option to help prevent sparks from coming out the vents is to cut a small piece of screen and put it over the inside of the air vent. It could be that you are seeing this more if you have the down-drafting problem as discussed above. Also some firewood throws sparks more than others. You shouldn't get many sparks from hardwood....Robert

We love this stove. Easy to assemble and a great value! Keeps our 1000 sq ft home toasty in the Colorado Mountains. The electric fan is the cheapest, noisiest thing and quite frankly diminishes the value of an excellent stove. Had a quality and quiet fan been sold with it, this would easily be the most sought after stand alone woodstove in the marketplace.

Excellent product. First wood stove so it is VERY different from a conventional fireplace. Not high tech like newer models available but we had it professionally installed in the summertime it looked really nice and the entire unit & flue immediately drafted and put out a good deal of heat immediately. Very impressed with how it worked and even professional installers had positive comments on the quality for the price. We have not yet used it for our first winter but we certainly have a good expectation if it worked this well with how it operated immediately after install. I urge you to use extreme caution and absolute attention when around a hot and dangerous fireplace or wood stove!

My husband and I really love this wood stove. We bought it in November 2009 and it has paid for itself. We recently was attacked with a snowstorm and single digit wind chills for a week and it kept us warm. Plus we have a infinite supply of trees to cut down for firewood. Our dogs even love it. Nice and cozy plus relaxing to watch.

My wife and I installed this stove last month and we have enjoyed it immensely!!! We got hammered with a snowstornm and we were snug and warm in our 1600 sq ft house burning only wood. The big window is wonderful to relax to. I would highly recommend this stove and Northline Express.

I have been using this stove for 1 month now, the electric co. will not like it at all, unbelivable how much heat this unit puts out. Get lots of comments on it from all who see it. Another thing it is very easy on the woodpile. It is a nice unit and I tell all this is a great stove, and anyone who wants an excellent stove to heat their home look no farther this is it.
