During the 1770's the rooster was a popular decoration as well as a symbol of victory, which made this Aetna Rooster Fireback particularly popular. This handsome rooster was cast no later than 1775 at the first of two Aetna foundries located in southern New Jersey. This foundry was near present day Medford Lakes.
When positioned against the back wall of your fireplace, the Aetna Rooster Fireback protects the
masonry from deterioration; and by reflecting light and heat from the fire, it radiates
heat from the fire forward into the room.
A fire back lends visual warmth and interest to a hearth whether it's with a
roaring fire, or soft candlelight. Our original cast iron fireback designs were
created by artist J. Del Conner. A mark of quality and authenticity is engraved
on the back of each casting. Measures 22" Wide x 26" High x 3/4" Thick. 68 lbs.
