What are mosquito dunks made of?

The active ingredient in Mosquito Dunks is BTI, which stands for Bacillus thuringiensis subspecies israelensis. BTI is a bacterium that is deadly to mosquito larvae but harmless to other living things.

Are mosquito dunks safe for other insects, animals and pets?

While Mosquito Dunks will kill all mosquito larvae in standing water, they are labeled for use in animal watering troughs, ponds, birdbaths, and other areas in which animals and pets will drink and bathe.   Mosquito Dunks are also completely harmless to plants, fish, frogs, turtles, and other beneficial insects.

Do Mosquito Dunks fully dissolve? When to put out a new Mosquito Dunks?

Mosquito Dunks will fully dissolve within about 30 days. When the Mosquito Dunk has disappeared from the surface of the water, then it is time to replace it with a new Dunk.

How many mosquito dunks for the pool?

One Mosquito Dunk will work on 100 square feet of surface water. So it will depend on how long and wide your pool is as to how many Dunks you may need. You can prevent the Dunks from floating around by anchoring them with a small piece of string through the center hole.

How long do mosquito dunks take to work?

While floating, a Mosquito Dunk slowly releases a long-term biological mosquito larvicide at the water’s surface. This larvicide gradually settles in the water, and while it travels through the water it is eaten by the mosquito larvae growing there. When female mosquitoes lay their eggs in standing water treated with a Mosquito Dunk®, the larvae will hatch and begin to eat the Bti. The Bti will kill the mosquito larvae before they can grow up to become biting and disease-spreading adults. With continuous use, you should notice a reduction in mosquitos within a couple of months.
