Description

Measures 55-1/4" High and weighs 27 lbs.

Note: Your log base will require a hardwood stump with a maximum recommended height of 14" and a diameter of 14" to 15".

Easy setup-

  • Use a drill to make a 12 cm deep hole in your wood base.
  • Insert the Smart-Splitter into your base
  • You then tighten the bolt with a wrench so it is securely fastened in the splitting wedge.
  • Lift the handle and place the log you wish to cut under the wedge.
  • Lift the striking weight with both hands and drop it on the splitting wedge.
  • Put the split log back under the weight to cut kindling also.

Upgrades to its safety were due to my injury

"I got this through Logosol at least 4 yrs ago- at that time it looked like the picture you still use in selling the plastic spacer. It had a smooth round top and a taper to the plastic spacer. I found it easier to hold (less slippery) where the narrow part started, and slid it down forcefully to get more umph, and the low hold caused my middle finger of the left hand be crushed and luckily it was a severe pinch/cut that just missed the knuckle on each side. I argued that a lip/indent at the top and bottom would aid in the grip higher up, and they sent me a free redesigned one. The solution is to flip the weight 180 deg, so a finger can't be at the same plane as the spacer. The downside was they trimmed the original size so it weighs less, so less umph from dropping it. Still great for reducing sub 10"""""""" wood to stove size, and is very stable for splitting stuff like 1X6 to make kindling."

Not Enough

"A good tool for small rounds 6"" or less. Anything larger will not split. Green and hardwood are very difficult. A lot to spend for small logs that could be split by other means without spending that much money. Return policy pricey. 15% restocking Fee and shipping not worth the return."

Excellent Product

"This splitter is amazing! We use this type of splitters at the Girl Scout Camps and the girls can safely chop all of the wood and kindling we need themselves! I had to buy one for my husband and me, since splitting rounds by hand is hard on my husband's back, and impossible for me. We had a power outage when my husband was out of town and I could not chop wood. I had to buy bundles at the grocery store. This wood splitter has saved our backs, and even our daughter can go cut wood. Big WIN!"

"At just this side of 70 my shoulder is getting sore more often while splitting small logs and kindling for my wood stove. Several people laughed but then tried it. HA HA. Just what I needed. Well worth the price and includes the wrench it needs AND the paddle bit needed to drill the hole it needs to be set up in on your base log.
