Tjernlund Auto-Draft Draft Inducer - Draft Inducers are electrically operated to increase the air flow up the chimney. This action increases the negative pressure (draft) in the stove, preventing smoke from leaking out of pipe, seams or doors. The Tjernlund Draft Inducer is specifically designed for freestanding wood and coal stoves with severe draft problems and is designed to be installed in single wall black pipe. Installation involves cutting a slot into the black pipe then mounting the fan on the pipe. Not for use with fireplaces or with double or triple wall pipe. The manual operation runs with an adjustable speed control, turn a certain amount to turn it on and then you can control the speed with it from there, much like a dial light switch.

Product Note: Must be installed at least 18" away from the stove.

Great Solution

"Purchased this draft inducer 3 years ago after serious downdraft problems with the southern wind in Rexburg. It solves the problem 95% of the time. The only time we see any downdrafts are during serious windstorms when there are gusts of 40-50mph. Other than that it functions perfectly. There must be different templates, because I too read reviews of it being too large, but the one I received worked perfectly. IDK. But if the power goes out during a windstorm, we're back to the same issue with no electricity to run this fan which is required with wind. So I'm considering the Vacu-Stack cap as well. Hopefully that might totally eliminate the need for this electric inducer since the chimney drafts perfectly in little or no wind conditions. I haven't cleaned this assembly out since install, but I know I'm suppose to. ;-) So it can run for years without cleaning if you're lazy like me, but clearly it'll be better/safer if maintained yearly. I wish the speed dial had an even lower setting because when turned on it creates such an awesome draft you blow through wood much more quickly! But again, I only have to use it on windy days. Very pleased with quality and performance! Robert's Comment; A Vacu-Stack is specifically designed to improve the draft if you're getting a down-draft on windy days so I'd definitely recommend giving one a try. Also regular cleaning of your chimney pipe and stove pipe will improve the draft as well. During the season I use Anti-Creo-Soot remover which helps to keep the creosote to a minimum. "WORKED FOR 6 MONTHS AND HAS STOPPED WORKING LESS THAN A YEAR! THE UNIT CANNOT HANDLE VT WINTERS! Moderator; I suspect you may have creosote buildup on the blades keeping the motor from turning. Try removing the fan and seeing if you can spin the motor. We have had good results with these units so if that doesn't work give our service department a call and we'll get you taken care of. . . Robert"

This little gem did the trick for me

"This little gem did the trick for me. I have a fan driven, wood gasification boiler that should not need any draft assistance, except that the chimney is nearly 50' long. I had all kinds of problems over two years. Finally, I looked for a draft inducer solution after nothing else worked. The Tjernlund was by far the least expensive and the only in-line fan. I was hesitant to use an in-line for what is supposed to be a closed system. Anyway, I hooked it up to the boiler's fan motor so it ran and stopped running when the boiler kicked on and off. Works like a charm! And the adjustable rheostat is handy, too, for variable weather conditions during different seasons. Only negative comment is that the cut-out template cuts a hole too large, necessitating use of extra high heat sealant."

"Easy to install, very impressed with the power. I have 4 elbows in my pipe, and it runs 30+ feet before it turns up on the outside of the building. This unit has no problem keeping the draft going."

"This item has made our woodburing stove functional again! We remodeled our home in 2003 and significantly raised the roof line. As a result, we could not get our difficult to start air tight woodstove to draw. This product was simple to install and within 1 minute created the draw in our chimney that we never had before. "March 22,2005 Hi, I recently purchased this product and hooked it up to the back of my vertical stove pipe coming from my wood stove, under the elbow to a horizontal pipe going into the chimney. I was a little skeptical at first, as to how it would work and not allow smoke into the house where the shaft enters the housing to turn the fan. Other than the stovepipe template being a little big, necessitating some creative use of furnace cement and some awkward placement of screw holes to attach to the pipe, the inducer has all but totally solved a smoking problem and also encourages a steady burn on big logs, especially at low speed, for longer periods. All in all, money well spent."
