Choose the Right Fire Pit For You

Every outdoor living space should have a fire feature of some sort. Outdoor fire pits can be a place to simply relax and unwind after a long day at work or a social gathering spot for guests at a party. If you are looking to add dimension and visually improve your patio, deck, or back yard there is no easier way than adding a fire pit!

There are many variables when it comes to selecting a fire pit and that finding the right fire pit may seem overwhelming. It is no where near as intense as it seems.

Set the scene

Start by visualizing how you want to compliment your existing setting with a fire. Asking yourself some simple questions like; "Do I want the fire to be the centerpiece of my outdoor area or more an accent piece?" Or "Will I want a fire that produces real heat?" will help you determine which fire pit is best for your setting. Remember, just because there’s a flame doesn't always mean that it will be able to keep you warm.

Size it up

When choosing your fire pits size Remember, safety comes first and size matters. It is recommended to keep at least a 10 foot radius around the pit from your home and any other structures in your yard. Don’t forget to look up, make sure that you’re checking for vertical clearances as well. It is best to maintain a 30’ vertical clearance to best avoid accidents. Generally, fire pits range in size from 20"-45" in diameter. Small ones are usually 20"-25" while the largest pits are about 40"-45" in diameter depending on the fuel type.

Decide on a fuel

Traditionally, most fire pits are either wood burning or gas but there are alternatives to wood and gas such as wood pellet, bio-ethanol, or gel alcohol fuel fire pits. Each fuel has its advantages and it is important to determine which type you not only want but works best for your specific set up. Use the fire pit fuel comparison chart to determine which fuel will best suit your needs.
